Yesterday's breadth repair gathered pace beneath an almost unchanged index. Nifty closed at 22,750, while 1,821 stocks advanced against 722 decliners. That makes tomorrow's chart review more worthwhile, but the market remains Neutral — Fading. A broader rebound has yet to produce a healthier pool of advancing trends.

The repair is real, the drain is deeper

The share above the 20-day average rose to 17.9% from 11.6% yesterday. Yearly lows eased to 348 from 511, although they still far exceeded 47 highs.

Stage 2 moved the other way, losing 3.2 percentage points over five sessions. Over that period, 11 stocks moved from basing to advancing against 82 moving from advancing to topping. The resulting deficit is a six-week low. This remains a market for selective screening rather than treating a green session as permission to broaden the watchlist indiscriminately.

Financials reverse; Paper still thins

The small financials improvement we flagged yesterday has reversed. Its advancing share fell from 19.2% to 17.8%; public banks held at 25%.

Paper's rebound also remains unconvincing: prices gained 2.2%, but advancing participation slipped from 32% to 28%. Telecom equipment held its 50% advancing share while gaining 2.9%, preserving the distinction between that pocket and the wider communications sector.

IT offers a modest change in the other direction. Its advancing share improved from 21.1% to 21.9%, while its 10% monthly return still leads sectors. The gap between returns and participation has narrowed slightly, not closed.

Keep the stock review selective

Delta Corp leads the early-stage setup list with a score of 8 and sits 6% above its 50-day average. Persistent Systems scores 7.2 and is 4.4% above its average. These are chart-review candidates, not confirmation that market conditions have turned.

Existing watchlists need attention too. Bajaj Holdings and Investment and IIFL Finance left Stage 2 for topping tonight. Indian Hotels Company returned from topping to advancing, alongside a hotel industry whose advancing share has expanded by 8.4 points over 20 sessions. Keep fresh setups separate from stage changes when preparing tomorrow's review.
