cohort narrowing

Yesterday we called the return of positive yearly breadth an important confirmation of the rebound. Tonight that confirmation has reversed, even as Nifty reached a six-week high. The market remains Neutral — Fading. For the next session, this favours a selective chart-review routine rather than broadening the shortlist on index strength alone.

The rebound loses breadth support

The share above the 20-day average slipped to 52.1% from 57.6%. Long-term participation also weakened, with only 37.3% above the 200-day average, although Nifty remains above its own.

The advancing cohort is still shrinking. Stage 2 share is down 3.1 percentage points over five sessions. Over that period, 13 stocks moved from basing to advancing while 107 moved from advancing to topping. Tonight's index gain has not repaired that imbalance.

Financials carries on repairing

The tentative Financials repair we flagged yesterday continued. It led sector gains with a 1.4% rise, and advancing participation increased from 20.4% to 21.1%. Public banks retain a participation expansion of 8.3 percentage points over 20 sessions.

Our selective pockets also held: biotechnology remains 44.4% advancing. Ports rebounded 2%, with all its stocks still advancing, though that group contains only three companies. Sugar is less reassuring, with its advancing share slipping to 48.3% from 51.7%.

Keep fresh setups separate from trend damage

Tips Music leads the early-setup list with a score of 8.3, followed by Tech Mahindra at 8.2. Tech Mahindra remains an individual chart to study rather than evidence of broad IT repair: the sector's advancing share fell to 20.8% from 21.5%.

Punjab National Bank also remains an early setup, scoring 7.6 and sitting 7.7% above its 50-day average. These are screening candidates, not market clearance to act.

Existing watchlists need a damage check too. Apar Industries and Aether Industries moved from advancing into topping tonight. Saregama India returned to Stage 2, but fresh entries do not cancel the wider loss of participation.
