Yesterday's index rally was not the whole recovery: breadth improved again even as Nifty slipped to 22,623. That strengthens the repair thread we have followed since Monday, but it does not change the routine yet. This remains a selective screening market, not a broad expansion in advancing trends.

Recovery beneath the index

The share above the 20-day average rose from 31.1% to 36.3%. Yearly lows eased to 216 against 111 highs, although lows have outnumbered highs for 14 sessions. The slower trend test still disappoints: over five sessions, 13 stocks moved from basing to advancing against 82 moving from advancing to topping. That balance is at a six-week low. Better breadth is worth tracking; it is not yet replenishing Stage 2.

Paper turns; sector rallies need scrutiny

Paper Products, which fell on yesterday's rally day, turned sharply higher today. Its advancing share remains 40%, up 16 percentage points over 20 sessions: price now supports the participation pocket we flagged. IT extended yesterday's rally, but its advancing share barely changed from 22.4% to 22.5%. Technology Hardware offers a narrower pocket, with 55.6% advancing and a 15.6-point increase over 20 sessions. Utilities led today's sector gains at 2.1%, yet just 9.7% is advancing. Energy's mismatch also persists: despite a positive day, its advancing share fell from 58.6% to 55.2%. Financials remains stuck at 21.7%, while Health Care retains the strongest relative strength despite falling 0.9%.

Tomorrow's chart-review queue

Start the early-stage review with Tega Industries, Sunflag Iron and Steel Co and Jash Engineering, in that order. Their setup scores are 8.4, 8.3 and 7.9; these are screening candidates, not evidence that the market has turned. Existing watchlists need attention too: Hindalco Industries, Maharashtra Scooters and Stylam Industries moved from advancing to topping tonight. Jana Small Finance Bank also left Stage 2. Bank of Maharashtra returned from topping to advancing, but its 3.3 setup score shows why a stage return alone is not enough.
