Nifty jumps, but yesterday's breadth repair breaks

Paper gives back ground, IT loses advancing names, and the rally does not broaden the screening case.

Yesterday we highlighted breadth improving despite a falling index. Tonight that relationship flipped: Nifty posted its strongest daily rise in six weeks, while participation weakened. Tomorrow's routine should start with stage changes and individual chart checks, not a broader shortlist simply because the index rallied.

The repair has turned, not the market

Yearly lows rose to 254 against 77 highs. The advancing cohort kept shrinking, although the five-session balance of basing-to-advancing versus advancing-to-topping moves improved slightly to minus 66. That is a narrower deficit, not replenishment. Only 36% of stocks remain above their 200-day average. The case for treating this as a broad recovery weakened tonight.

Energy holds; Paper loses its follow-through

Energy led the day's sector gains at 2.1%, with its advancing share unchanged at 55.2%. Its monthly return is still negative, so price recovery and stage strength have not fully aligned. Health Care retains the strongest relative-strength score at 70.1.

Paper Products, yesterday's bright spot, fell 4.4%; its Stage 2 share slipped from 40% to 36%. That weakens the pocket we highlighted. IT rose 0.9%, but advancing participation fell to 21.8%. Outsourced services also lost the expansion we were tracking: its advancing share is now 30%, with no net gain over 20 sessions. Financials' price rebound likewise failed to halt participation erosion.

Separate early setups from stage exits

For educational chart review, the early-move list starts with Indo Amines, Axiscades Technologies and Sunflag Iron and Steel Co. Their setup scores are 8.3, 8 and 7.9 respectively. These are candidates to examine individually, not confirmation that the market has turned.

Existing watchlists need attention too. Titan Company and Bajaj Auto moved from advancing to topping. Tech Mahindra and Firstsource Solutions did the same, reinforcing the participation gap beneath IT's rally. Tamilnadu Newsprint & Papers and Cosmo First also left Stage 2, adding stock-level caution to Paper's reversal. Review those stage changes before adding fresh names.
