The Nifty fell 0.7% to 22,363.3, but more stocks rose than fell: 1,283 advancers against 1,200 decliners. Participation improved beneath the index. The catch is that the advancing Stage-2 cohort slipped to 28.3% of stocks, its lowest share in the 30-session window. Short-term repair and trend deterioration are happening together. This is not broad confirmation of a recovery.

A bounce is not a trend repair

The share above the 20-day average reached 27.5%, up from 20.5% on 8 October. Yet only 24.6% are above their 50-day average and 34.1% above their 200-day average. Over the last five sessions, 15 stocks moved from basing into advancing trends, while 61 moved from advancing into topping. The Stage-2 share has lost 2 percentage points over those five sessions and 4.7 points over 20. There were 341 stocks at 52-week lows against 98 at highs today. Lows have outnumbered highs for 12 consecutive sessions. The daily advance count is improving; the stock of healthy trends is not.

Paper cuts against the grain

Paper Products rose 7.3% today and is up 5.1% over a month. Across its 25 stocks, 40% are in Stage 2, with that share expanding by 16 percentage points over 20 sessions. That is a concrete pocket of improving participation inside Materials, where the advancing share has instead contracted by 2.2 points. It does not establish a market-wide turn. But it is a more useful industry signal than a green sector close alone: price strength is accompanied by an expanding advancing cohort, rather than merely a rebound in declining stocks.

Keep the screen separate from the market signal

Tega Industries Ltd leads the early Stage-2 screen with a setup score of 8.4 out of 10, followed by SMS Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Jash Engineering Ltd at 8.3 each. Industrials rose 0.4% today, but just 25.3% of its stocks are advancing, and that share has fallen 3.8 percentage points over 20 sessions. Strong individual screen scores therefore sit inside weak sector participation. The market-wide median setup score is 5 out of 10, tied at the window low. These names are screening candidates for chart review, not evidence that the wider tape has turned.
