Nifty's strongest bounce, Stage 2's smallest cohort

Participation recovered from Thursday's lows. Advancing trends and setup quality still deteriorated.

Nifty rose 1.3% to 22,520.4, its strongest daily gain in the 30-session window. The advancing cohort went the other way: only 28.9% of stocks remain in Stage 2, a fresh window low. The median setup score also slipped to a window low of 5 out of 10. This was a rebound in prices, not a repair of the trend structure.

Breadth improved. The damage remains.

There were 1,409 advancers against 1,053 decliners, a clear improvement on Thursday. But just 24% of stocks are above their 20-day average, and 23% are above their 50-day average. Short-term participation recovered from Thursday's window lows without changing the weak underlying picture.

At the longer horizon, 353 stocks hit 52-week lows against only 57 at highs. Lows have outnumbered highs for 11 consecutive sessions. Over the last five sessions, 16 stocks moved from basing into advancing trends while 51 moved from advancing into topping. That rolling balance has been negative throughout all 30 sessions. The Stage-2 share has lost 4.2 percentage points over 20 sessions. A green index does not cancel that erosion.

IT's rally is not the same as leadership

Information Technology led today's sector gains with a 2.6% rise, yet only 22% of its stocks are advancing. IT Services & Consulting rose 3.1%, but its Stage-2 share is just 15%, down 6.1 percentage points over 20 sessions. The day's strong return sits alongside thinning trend participation.

Technology Hardware shows the opposite contrast. It fell 1.4% today, yet is up 8.8% over a month and 31.5% over three months. Its advancing share is 56%, up 15.6 percentage points over 20 sessions. This is a small, 10-stock industry, not evidence of a broad IT recovery. It does show why the sector headline needs a second look.

The early screen stays a screen

Tega Industries Ltd leads the early-stage list with a setup score of 8.8 out of 10, followed by SMS Pharmaceuticals Ltd at 8.3. Lloyds Engineering Works Ltd and Jash Engineering Ltd follow at 7.8 each. These are individual screening results inside a deteriorating market, not confirmation that conditions have turned favourable. The distinction today is between a stock qualifying for further study and the market supplying broad support.
