The Nifty posted its strongest daily gain in 30 sessions, rising 0.6% to 22,555.8. Beneath it, 339 stocks reached 52-week lows, also a 30-session extreme. Decliners outnumbered advancers by 1,404 to 1,084. This was an index bounce, not a broad-market recovery. The advancing Stage-2 share slipped to 30.3%, its lowest level in the same window, while the median setup score fell to a window low of 5.4 out of 10.

The bounce has not repaired participation

Only 24% of stocks are above their 20-day average, and 35% are above their 200-day average. Both readings improved from 1 October, but the gains are small against the damage. There were 99 stocks at 52-week highs versus 339 at lows; lows have outnumbered highs for seven consecutive sessions. Over the last five sessions, 22 stocks moved from basing into advancing, while 51 moved from advancing into topping. That balance has remained negative for 27 sessions. The Stage-2 share is down 3.3 percentage points over 20 sessions. Today's stronger index close has not reversed the erosion in advancing trends.

Paper is building against the market

Paper Products has a more constructive internal picture: 40% of its 25 stocks are advancing, up 20 percentage points over 20 sessions. The industry is up 5.9% over one month and 16.9% over three months, despite slipping 0.2% today. That combination separates a quiet day from a weak trend. It also contrasts with the broader Materials sector, which is down 5.1% over one month and has barely changed its advancing share. The industry-level picture is more useful here than the sector headline.

The screen is not confirmation

Manoj Vaibhav Gems N Jewellers Ltd leads the early-stage list with a setup score of 8.8 out of 10, followed by Pasupati Acrylon Ltd at 7.9. Andhra Paper Ltd also appears among the early-stage names at 7.9, giving the paper industry's improving breadth a company-level screening example. These are individual setups inside a deteriorating market, not evidence that the market has turned. Spectrum Electrical Industries Ltd scores 10 among the established trends, but that list describes leadership in moves that have already travelled further, not fresh opportunities.
